I modelled the Base mesh in maya (all quads) and created
the 32 bit displacement maps from a high res version I modelled
in Zbrush.
The Texturing took quite some time to figure out. I ended up painting
the different maps in Photoshop rather then using photos and using
a cavity map from Zbrush to give it punch. It was surprisingly tricky
to achieve a realistic but stylised look for the astronaut.
I used an HDRI probe for the lighting together with mental ray/final
gather.
